Since the introduction of the modern day Olympics in 1896, sports has proven itself in fostering friendships between diverse communities. With 2010, having the Youth Olympics Games held in Singapore, it is only apt that a new and exciting sports program be launched for the entire NIE community. Furthermore, the Olympic spirit that has been the hot topic in the news recently can be infused in our student teachers as
We hope to achieve the following objectives:
1. To foster camaraderie among the student teachers and staff in NIE.
2. To bring the enjoyment of sport to the wider community (including staff) in NIE.
3. To infuse and educate student teachers and staff in NIE with the Olympic Spirit because of Singapore’s hosting of the 2010 Youth Olympics.
4. To promote teamwork and understanding amongst student teachers in NIE.

To promote mass participation for all, certain rules will be in place:
- Maximum of one PESS student playing the game at any time.
- Minimum of one female student teacher playing the game at any time.
- In addition to these rules, groups that have at least one GESL coordinator playing the game will enjoy bonus points.
- Teams can register 2 more substitutes per game
- Student teachers can register for more than 1 game
Competition rules:
- Teams will be playing in a double knockout system
- Each game will take 10 minutes, during which teams will be allowed to make rolling substitutions.

Points will be given to groups who take part in the event. The point system is as follows:
Participation
1 Point
Winning a game
3 Points
Finishing first in the event
8 Points
Finishing second in the event
5 Points
Winner of the Inter-GESL Mini-Olympics will be the GESL group that accumulates the highest number of points at the end of the day.
